Allsouls Church

Above is a picture of the Allsouls Church as it exists today. This church is perhaps the perfect example of one of John Nash's "events". If you look at the map on the Nash Page, you can see just below the northen end of the street, a strange crook in the street, that creats a very odd corner. This corner was one of Nash's greatest challenges, because views are blocked by the turn, the one building at the apex of the corner had to embody the whole of the street. Nash himself took complete control over the design of this church, to make sure it was one of the great, unifying buildings along the street. Like many of the other "events" and buildings along the street, the church uses the horizontal lines that many other buildings share, the same neoclassical architecture, and continues with the round theme found in many storefronts and circuses. Even today, this building is a unifying feature if the street, due soley to its shape and location. John Nash knew that the odd shape of Regent Street would make baroque style unity impossible, his answer to possobly the most dis-unified portion of the street works the best, and is perhaps the most famous "event" of the street.
