Term Essay

(8-10 pages) 20% of semester grade

• Ina well-developed essay Compare three of the authors we have studied, including one from the last two units (Smith, Marx, Herzl or Freud). Pose a challenging question that relates to the essential questions raised in this course, organize a systematic comparative analysis in response to your question, and then give precise, extensive quotations from the texts that you have selected.

• OR establish your own utopia addressing as many essential questions raised in this course as you can in an effective utopian tract. Be sure to make explicit references to the ideas of at least three of the authors we have studied, including one from the last two units (Smith, Marx, Herzl or Freud)

• OR identify a particular contemporary social ill (or ills) and propose a reform (or reforms) to correct it using examples from at least three of the authors we have studied, including one from the last two units (Smith, Marx, Herzl or Freud). Be sure to address as many essential questions raised in this course as you can in an effective manifesto or discourse.
