Diversity Across the Divisions

Promoting diversity within the school community has been one of Ethical Culture's main objectives since its genesis in 1878. Felix Adler founded EC with the goal of creating an all-encompassing, democratic school environment. This philosophy continues as a thread woven throughout our curriculum, extracurricular activities and student and parent support, creating a mosaic of student life.
We are a progressive school that focuses on educating the whole child and valuing the multicultural experiences that our students, their families and our faculty/staff share.

It is EC's intention to educate our students to recognize that they are members of an inclusive school community, one with purpose and meaning, which reflects the city in which they live. Students are taught to respect and value diversities including race, socio-economics, class, family composition, learning styles, gender and sexual identity. Ethical values are encouraged through understanding, knowledge and compassion toward a multi-cultural world.
