At Fieldston Lower, we look at diversity through a myriad of perspectives and places in the daily life of students: from the people who make up our community, to the curriculum, both implicit and explicit, and in the ways we share of ourselves within the community. We hope that students and families will see themselves reflected here, and that each will see her or himself making an important contribution to the diversity that is our community.
As we work together to achieve what diversity expert Gary Howard refers to as equity, excellence, and inclusion, we recognize that doing so requires everyone’s participation and support. And it requires that we take time to reflect on our practice, our community, and ourselves. It is a journey begun more than 130 years ago, and one that we continue today.
