ECF Strategic Plan

ECF Strategic Plan 2013-2018
Dear Members of the ECF Community,

In early September we formally launched the 2012-2017 strategic planning process.  This is an exciting and energizing time in our community.  We will collectively look ahead to map out how our school can best address the opportunities and challenges we face, and carry out our mission of academic excellence, progressive education and ethical learning into the future.  Ours will be a broad, inclusive process that will bring together the valuable perspectives of all in our community.

The Board has formed a Strategic Plan Steering Committee (SPSC) that is co-chaired by the three of us and comprised of the four faculty members who serve on the Board (one from each School division), five administrators, four additional Board members, and the two Fieldston student government leaders.  Several of the Committee members are graduates and current or past parents of the school.  The planning process is being coordinated by Erin Dillard, Director of Strategic Initiatives, and guided by strategy consultants Anthony Knerr & Associates (AKA).

Beginning with the search for a permanent Head of School and continuing over the past three years, the ECF community has engaged in a number of substantive conversations that lay the foundation for the strategic plan.  These include the work of the NYSAIS Self-Study Steering Committee and its many subcommittees; surveys completed by hundreds of students, faculty, and parents; “Meet & Greet” sessions with the new Head of School and new Principals of Ethical Culture and the Upper School; and the Community Read event held in early September.  The strategic planning process will take account of all of these conversations as well as interviews, focus groups, and town hall meetings that are being undertaken as an integral part of the development of the strategic plan.

This website has been designed to facilitate and encourage transparency throughout the entire ECF community about the strategic planning process.  It provides information about the timeline, the ongoing progress of the planning process, and opportunities for community engagement throughout the year. We will update the site every month or so.

We are excited to have this opportunity to re-embrace our mission and the vision of our founder, Felix Adler, and we look forward to constructing a shared vision for our School’s future.  Thank you for all that you have done, and will do, to contribute to this important and re-foundational process.

Sincerely,

Damian Fernandez
