Ethical Culture Library
The goal of the Ethical
Culture library program is to help children develop a thoughtful and critical
approach to books and media that can serve them in many aspects of their lives.
We hope to steadily increase children’s independence in being able to find
resources, whether fiction or non-fiction, digital or print, and to recognize
when they need assistance.
The library serves students
in Pre-K through fifth grade in two beautifully designed spaces. There are
currently more than 20,000 titles available to students. During their library
classes students read and discuss books, are instructed in the use of the
library, learn to use print and online sources of information and the safe and
effective use of technology, and choose books to bring home.
The library uses a child-friendly
online catalog, and offers access to digital encyclopedias and databases as
well as guiding students to appropriate websites.
We provide students with wireless
access to the Internet through laptops and iPads which are also available
during after-school library hours. Additionally, our collection includes audio
books for all ages. The library provides video for teachers through the Safari
Montage video database.
