Separate Spheres

The separate sphere ideology bolstered the ideas that women are inferior to men. On what was thought to be reliable scientific research, many men and women believed that women lived in sphere defined by dependence, emotion and the maternal while men lived in a sphere defined by rationalism, independence and aggression.
