World War II & Beyond

The positive and innovative ideas of the modern world sadly brought with them the negative effects of a society trying to cope with them all at once. The destruction of the father, the traditional way of life, occurred too early, leaving the child helpless, without anyone to support it. Freud and Klimt were caught up in a moment, along with everyone else at that time, where they felt indestructible, ready take charge without concern for their own fate. By the time they realized the conflict their new ideas had caused it was too late. Freud had to flee Vienna in 1938, and Klimt was eventually forced to leave the Secessionists because of their changing views.
