Apartment Palaces
The apartment palaces were built to appease the bourgeoisies desire to live in luxury. These palaces were huge, ornate buildings housing many small apartments for the bourgeoisie to live in. Upon entering the lobby of one of these palaces, one would think they had just entered the medieval residence of the king himself. The lobbies and hallways were extremely ornate and made one imagine a house in the Aldstadt. But really, behind this ornate faade were many small apartments that housed the bourgeoisie. The emperor made these apartment palaces to make the bourgeoisie feel like they are living inside the Aldstadt. This feeling of luxury appeased in part the bourgeoisies desire for power because they felt like they had power, but the emperor only gave them that feeling with no substance behind it.
