Modernism

The Modern is something which is characterized by Òthe newÓ or something which is different from what has come before. This can be manifested in a number of ways, either by reverting to the past and taking old ideas and revisiting them in various ways, or by looking to the future and attempting to change everything. The modernist movement demonstrated both of these in art and culture. In politics, the modern era saw the devolpment of many new types of political thought as they moved away from the old aristocratic way of life and towards one which was driven more by the public. This manifested itself as democracy or as socialism, as well as a number of other smaller movements such as anarchism.
