A Closer Look:  Raumplan

 

 

   Raumplan was Adolf Loos'effort to rethink the traditional plan-based configuration of space within a predetermined volume.  Loos believed that each room should be designed individually, with the height most appropriate for it.  His house plans consisted of small, volumetric rooms connected by short staircases.  In his search for a modern architecture, Loos was looking beyond the idea of rethinking decorative languages , and to a rethinking of the composition of space.
