Born
1775 in London's Covent Garden, the son of a barber, much
of Turners work is said to be infulened by his urban childhood.
He longed for the natural beauty that exsisted outside of
the crowded city, but at the same time held a place in his
heart for its crowded and bustling streets. He entered the
Royal Academy schools in 1789, at the age of 14. By 24 he
was made an associate at the Royal Academy, and and an academician
at a mere 27.
