Other characters that seem to either have been a product or are
like the products of the Grangrind School have strong feelings towards
rebellion. The upper class of the story including Ms. Sparsit, Mr.
Bounderby’s maid and accomplice, believe that unions are horrible.
These are the people who control the workers in their factory and
the union threatens their power over them. She says "It is
much to be regretted" that the united masters of any such class-combinations"
I only know that these people must be conquered, and that it’s high
time it was done." She has no grasp over the working class
and sees it unfair for the workers to protect themselves. Unions
are another way besides just learning facts and becoming inhuman
to become "the fittest." Instead of everyone fighting
to be best, they all become equal and that equality becomes the
best. Plus they also become the majority of the people. It is harder
to put down a monstrous mob of people than separate individuals
trying to fight the elitists by themselves. Bitzer is a direct
product of the Grangrind school. He has no emotions. He cannot describe
anything without complicated hard facts. He shows us that in the
society of CokeTown, the only thing that can help you succeed in
life are facts. He has no life. He sees no point in having emotions,
they just get in the way of things. He saves his money not having
recreation or family. He is so ignorant toto the ideas of happiness
that he doesn’t understand why people want families. There is nothing
emotionally human about him, but he is "the fittest."
