Introduction

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries there was a sense of boredom overwhelming the art and music communities. Artist like Monet and Manet were starting to explore a new technique of expressing themselves and their growing weariness. This genre was coined impressionism. The same phenomenon simultaneously occurred in music started by composer Claude Debussy.
