The Arts at Fieldston Upper
At Fieldston Upper, the arts play a significant role in the curriculum, student life, and extracurricular activities. Students in the visual arts enjoy the the advanced curriculum, participate in shows, and work on the photography magazine, Eagle Eye. Many also participate in the annual spring fashion show, in which they meet the challenge of creating clothing out of non-traditional materials and exhibit their works of art on the red carpet, to the delight of their classmates.
The performing arts are equally strong. Throughout the year, the Fieldston community enjoys performances by the chorus, the orchestra, the percussion ensembles, the chamber music groups, and jazz ensembles. Last year the Fieldston Opera Company performed Venus and Adonis, England's oldest opera. Dance students present their work at four concerts during the year, performing work by students and established choreographers. The theater at Fieldston is vibrant and ambitious, ranging from the fall drama and the student-directed plays to the spring musical. Last year's musical was Ragtime, based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow.
