Weeks of Discovery
Entering kindergarten - Entering 3rd grade
Ethical Culture Campus, Manhattan

Throughout the week, children enjoy innovative activities based on their own personal interests in areas such as free play, cooking, sports, creative
movement, water play, and board games. Under the close supervision of experienced counselors, children also go on a special outing and adventure during Session I. A talent show is held at the end of Session II, when parents and families and friends are invited to come and watch their budding stars. Although each child is part of a smaller peer group of similar ages, he or she is also a member of a larger group. This gives each child a unique kind of social and learning experience. Children have fun, exciting days, but there is always time for relaxation, reflection, and individual pursuits.

A typical day begins with music/dance, followed by a brief meeting. Twice a day children choose one or more activities in which to participate, including sports and games, arts and crafts, cooking projects, science projects, and playing outdoors. Mid-morning we break for stories. A leisurely lunch is followed by quiet activities. The day ends with a snack and movie video, as well as a closing meeting at which children share highlights of their day with the group.

Program Director
Ginny Katz - Ginny, a teacher at ECF for the past 27 years, has spent seven years teaching
1st grade and the past 20 years teaching kindergarten.

 Staff
Ethical Culture and Fieldston teachers and assistant teachers, as well at ECF high school students, make up our knowledgeable, caring staff. Each program maintains a low child-staff ratio so that every child’s experience is full, varied, and comfortable. A nurse is on site, ready to bandage a cut knee or dispense medication.
