Coming off an undefeated season and a second-place finish in state finals, the Fieldston varsity volleyball team had high expectations to live up to. The team had a strong start, winning their opening game against Horace Mann, the following game against Chapin, and a league-wide tournament at Brearley.
Poly Prep proved to be the biggest challenge, and Fieldston ended up losing both games. Davi Lennon (Form V) thought the team learned from the losses: "The Poly Prep games were tough. I think that we will become a stronger program and team in face of games like these, and I am looking forward to improving our game for the rest of the season." So far this season, the volleyball team has won eight games and lost three. Most recently, they defeated Brearley 3-0, clinched their second win against Horace Mann, and, on Wednesday, defeated Dalton.
While this team has had a bumpy start, co-captain Josephine Dine (Form VI) believes that they'll have a strong second half of the season. "I am really proud of how hard we've all been working and how much we've improved already. We have had a couple of really close losses in games we could have won, which has been tough, but we're using them as learning experiences. If we can start to play more cohesively and do what we have been practicing in games, we will be unbeatable. This is definitely the best team I've seen in my four years, and we are lucky to have coaches that hold us to such a high standard. There is no doubt in my mind we will keep improving and play to our full potential."
