For several years now, Ethical Culture has partnered with TerraCycle, a company that recycles hard-to-recycle waste, such as snack bags. Last week, the entire kindergarten class had a chance to learn more about how the objects they collect at school for recycling are used to make other products.
Kindergartners periodically collect the snack bags that are placed in specially marked bins around the school and then sort and package them to send to a TerraCycle facility. What made last Wednesday special was that students had the chance to see a video that showed what the bags they collect can be made into. One student remarked, "We saw a jacket made of recycled bags," while another marveled at a table made of plastic bottles. Yet another said that seeing "the building where the bags went was really cool."
It was a wonderful opportunity for the grade to get together and also see the entire TerraCycle recycling process, from beginning to end.
