One Person’s Trash Is Another Person’s Musical Instrument

EC kindergarteners have been very busy the past few weeks learning about sound and vibration in science. They have also been learning about recycling in their classrooms.

Last Thursday, the entire kindergarten class gathered in Social Hall to see what they have been learning come to life. Bash the Trash, a band that makes musical instruments out of recycled materials, performed music and demonstrated how they make their instruments. Students learned how simple items--such as paper-towel rolls, paint cans, and plastic buckets--can be transformed into musical instruments that make wonderful, melodious sounds.

Bash the Trash also urged everyone to reduce, reuse, and recycle. After seeing the performance, students are now designing their own musical instruments out of recycled items.
