Fieldston Upper students had an unbelievable trip to Portugal during spring break this year. They spent eight incredible days traveling all throughout Portugal visiting many different cities and small towns, including the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, as well as Sintra, the Algarve region (Faro, Vilamoura, Albufeira, Sagres), (Silver Coast) Alcobaca, Nazare, Sao Martinho do Porto, Caldas da Rainha, Obidos, and Peniche.
Coach Sousa and Coach Wright were the chaperones of the trip along with a great tour manager named Clelia from ACIS who did a fantastic job of getting the entire trip organized from the time of their arrival, and all the way until the last departure. She was very organized and professional and had a ton of knowledge of the history and culture of all of the places that they visited.
Along the way, students had some great tour guides as well when they visited the Pena Palace in Sintra, as well as the monastery in Lisbon, and the surrounding areas. They had another great tour guide up north on the Silver Coast, with visits to Nazare, Caldas da Rainha, and Obidos.
Some other great visits and fun activities included a fun boat tour along the coast of Algarve where they had the chance to see some ancient dinosaur foot prints, a visit to "Fiesa" the worlds largest sand sculpture city. They also took a tour of "Mira de Aire" which are old underground caves with fossils dating back 80,000 years old. Students had an opportunity to have a great stadium tour of Benfica, one of the most popular Soccer teams in Lisbon. Students ended the trip with an incredible night time cooking lesson, where they ate what they prepared.
