Third Graders Celebrate Native American Culture at Picnic

31 May 2018

This week third grade students at Fieldston Lower culminated the end of the year with a picnic and curriculum presentations. Before students gathered for food and merriment, they had the chance to showcase various aspects of their work in social studies this year. The third grade curriculum revolves around a study of the history and culture of the Eastern Woodland People.

Wearing tunics that they made in Social Studies Workshop, students performed "Celebrations," which are songs and dances in the Native American tradition. In addition to music and dancing, students also had a chance to perform adaptations of Iroquois Pourquoi tales, which are Native American origin stories. After the plays were performed, families in the grade gathered on the playground for a picnic.
