"Albuquerque Turkey," "Sweet Potatoes," and More at Thanksgiving Assembly

by Blake Rowe, FL Music Teacher

Fieldston Lower held its annual Thanksgiving assembly on Tuesday, November 21. The fourth grade performed a Russian folk song titled "Little Birch Tree," which included singing a verse in the original Russian and playing the melody on recorders. The fifth graders accompanied several songs on xylophones, metallophones, and various other percussion instruments. Most of the songs were old favorites, such as "Albuquerque Turkey" and "Sweet Potatoes." New this year was a parranda song from Puerto Rico titled "Saludo, Saludo" and "We n'de ya ho," a Cherokee morning song.
