As ECFS goes remote, everything from instruction to PE to school spirit is now happening in an online setting. The team at Fieldston Lower, spearheaded by Melinda Moore, Assistant to the Lower School Principal, wanted to bring their community online, too. “By creating the virtual campus, we have developed a unique way for families to stay connected with one another,” says Joe McCauley, Fieldston Lower Principal.
The site features pictures, videos, and even a podcast from Taina Coleman, Fieldston Lower Language and Learning Specialist. “Taina's podcast is definitely one of my favorite parts because we get to hear the voices of our students, faculty, and staff,” McCauley says. “It’s heartwarming, funny, and engaging — just like Fieldston Lower.”
The Virtual Campus is a space for the Fieldston Lower community to check in with each other and see what’s happening “on campus.” In one section, Fieldston Lower Chef Enrique Vila shared a recipe for gluten-free chicken fingers — a Fieldston Lower favorite.
Melinda Moore and Tania Miraz, Administrative Assistant and Transportation Coordinator, held an utterly vivacious virtual office hours session, where they read the March birthdays from the comfort of their homes.
The Virtual campus is also a place to share students’ quarantine activities, from puzzles to art projects. “I love seeing all the pictures of our students showing how they are learning and expressing their creativity while at home,” McCauley says.
