Studio Theater Series

Stay after homecoming The Fieldston Theatre & Dance Department and the Studio Theater Series present Tape, a new play written and directed by current students. Tape is a fast-paced dramedy that explores themes including the impact of a weird invention, a sidekick-superhero dynamic, true friendship, disloyalty, homophobia, and feelings of inadequacy. Tape follows the relationship between an outwardly confident aspiring inventor and his eager friend and roommate, and the twists and turns that unfold when their personalities clash.
The 10/24 performance of Tape is at 6:00 pm.

Bronx River Alliance Gardening Event

Saturday 10/31
11:00am–1:00pm
Shoelace Park
The Fieldston Alumni Network invites you to Shoelace Park for a gardening community service event in partnership with Bronx River Alliance.
Bronx River Alliance Gardening Event

Bronx River Alliance will start with a plant identification activity, where participants will learn to identify the plants in the rain garden, including which plants Bronx River Alliance wants to keep and which plants they want to remove. After that, the group will primarily focus on weeding, with the potential to do some mulching as well.

Bronx River Alliance will provide all the tools needed to safely garden. They recommend that attendees wear clothing appropriate for outdoor work that can get dirty, including long pants and closed-toe shoes. They also encourage everyone to bring a reusable water bottle, and Bronx River Alliance will have water available as well.

And since Bronx River Alliance will be celebrating Halloween, you can come in costume! Costumes are absolutely encouraged—just make sure they’re comfortable and safe enough for some outdoor gardening.

You will be asked to fill out a release on site. It will be required to participate in the event.

Fall Drama Alumni Night

Friday 11/6
7:30pm
Fieldston Auditorium
It is a privilege to be revisiting The Laramie Project since our first production of the show more than two decades ago. Students are engaging in deep exploration, including: a study of the play’s initial devising, in partnership with Barbara Pitts (original company member) and The Tectonic Theatre Project’s Moment Work; an examination of the journey of the company to create this seminal piece of work; an investigation of the context in which the play was originally developed and performed, in partnership with our Dramaturg, Sophie David ’22 collaborative world-building with a team of designers and technical supervision, including Zach Cohn ’21, Emmie Finckel ’10, Sam Harris ’19, and Hannah Shafran ‘02; and community connections with residents of Laramie and Matthew Shepard’s father, Dennis Shepard.
Fall Drama Alumni Night

The Laramie Project remains one of our century’s most important and groundbreaking bodies of work in its form, themes, and story. Together, students and adults are holding the power of the play with tremendous humility and hope. Hope that, once again, the play can create opportunities for increased compassion, deep listening, and reflection, while remaining vigilant in our own community’s commitments to “inclusion, and belonging, [inspiring] a varied and joyful community of passionate learners, critical thinkers, and ethical individuals who aim to make the world more humane and just.”

Reception and celebration in the Dance Theatre Lab following the show.
