Fieldston Lower 1st Grade’s Bird Study is off to a Fieldston Lower 1st Grade’s Bird Study is off to a soaring start! 🪶🧡

On Election Day, each 1st Grade class participated in choosing a class bird, which will be adopted through the World Wildlife Fund. To prepare, students researched different species of birds to make an informed choice, combining their study of civics with their year-long curricular theme.

After choosing a cardinal as their winner, 1B had an exciting visit from a real-life cardinal at their class bird feeder. Students in 1A chose a harpy eagle and made their new class mascot, a stuffed harpy eagle, feel right at home by constructing an enclosure out of blocks! We can’t wait to see more from our students as they continue this exploration throughout the year.
Fieldston Upper engineers are locked in as they pr Fieldston Upper engineers are locked in as they prototype new vehicles! ⚙️🧡

As part of their exploration of the engineering design process, students test the most efficient way to build vehicles, using different variables like tire material, length, and balance to produce a car that travels the furthest under its own power.
Fieldston Lower’s Celebration of Books was a true Fieldston Lower’s Celebration of Books was a true literary party! 📚🧡

During the day-long celebration, everyone from Dog Man to Dorothy made an appearance as students dressed as characters from literature, visited the book fair to pick a new favorite title, and made beautiful book-themed crafts together.

We were also lucky to welcome children’s book author Dan Gutman to campus! He visited classrooms to talk about his writing process and share an inspiring message about the importance of persevering in their creative pursuits. Thank you to Dan and to the incredible faculty and volunteers who made this day a success!
Ready, set, race! Our Ethical Culture Eagles took Ready, set, race! Our Ethical Culture Eagles took to the park for the annual ECS-a-thon today, and had a blast! 👟🧡

Organized by the Ethical Culture P.E. department, this mini-marathon was created to help our youngest students foster a love of running. Rather than a typical 26.2 miles, students run approximately 1.2 over the course of four laps around Central Park. Parents, guardians, teachers, and community members join to cheer from the sidelines, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
