Thank you to the 40 volunteers across all ECFS div Thank you to the 40 volunteers across all ECFS divisions who came out to support @grassrootsgroceryny last Saturday! 🧡

Volunteers helped package over 10,000 pounds of fresh produce, including seasonal favorites like corn, tomatoes, and blackberries, which were distributed to families across Upper Manhattan, Harlem and the Bronx. We appreciate you all showing up for our neighbors – stay tuned for more volunteer opportunities in the spring!
Ethical Culture 5th Graders had an amazing time at Ethical Culture 5th Graders had an amazing time at Ashokan! 🏕️🧡

Over their three days at the center, students learned about wilderness survival, local ecology, traditional crafts like blacksmithing, and so much more! These hands-on experiences illuminate concepts they’ve discovered in their classes and strengthen our students’ connection to the wider community and natural world.

The entire grade also had the chance to bond as they canoed, conquered the ropes course, and sat around the campfire. It was a great way to welcome 5th Grade into their final year at Ethical Culture and a reminder of their shared commitment to exploration, collaboration, and leadership!
Fieldston Middle 8th Graders began their explorati Fieldston Middle 8th Graders began their exploration of patterns with a little inspiration from Piet Mondrian! 🟥🟨🟦

Students began this project by finding patterns in multiplication tables, which they then represented visually in the style of Mondrian. Although each student begins with the same table, the final pieces are unique based on the path they took to get to their design – a key takeaway for 8th Grade math, where students are beginning to explore more complex algebraic concepts.

“A point of emphasis in 8th Grade math is that sometimes there is more than one ‘answer’ or result to the same question,” math teacher John Kurtz explains. “That is an obvious point elsewhere in school and life, but counter-intuitive in math for lots of kids.”

This beloved Fieldston Middle tradition offers our community a record of generations of students, dating back to the opening of our middle school building in 2008. It’s also a unique opportunity for the entire division to come together and commemorate the new school year. From 6th Graders giddy over their first big middle school moment to 8th Graders celebrating being the leaders of the division, it’s always an exciting memory!
