This week, we’re diving into our memories of 197 This week, we’re diving into our memories of 1971 with an amazing action shot from a swim meet.
Fieldston Eagles always show athleticism and sportsmanship, and this diver is no exception — even the students watching have their mouths agape!
Action! Over the weekend, more than a dozen Fields Action! Over the weekend, more than a dozen Fieldston Upper film students had the opportunity to premiere their films at the Fieldston Film Festival, held at Lincoln Center. The films ranged from imaginative horror pieces and explorations of parasocial relationships to insightful documentary stories and reflections on ECFS’s own City Semester. Students also participated in Q&A sessions, where they gave the audience insight into their writing, directing, and editing processes.

Every filmmaker brought vision and technical skill to their work, and it was a joy to see the breadth of our students’ creativity on display! Thank you to Film Teacher Shaun Seneviratne, Film at Lincoln Center, and ECFS parent Ronnie Planalp for making this screening possible.
A little rain couldn’t stop the Class of 2025 fr A little rain couldn’t stop the Class of 2025 from celebrating their last day of school! 🧡

Seniors started the day with Field Day activities like capture the flag and egg spoon races, then watched their senior video and read letters they’d written to themselves as freshmen before heading over to CEO Kyle Wilkie-Glass’s house for a barbecue! Daniel B. ’25 wowed us all by preparing delicious ribs for the whole class, which they enjoyed while reminiscing about their time at ECFS. Congratulations, ’25 — we’ll see you at Commencement!
Congratulations to the ECFS Chess team, composed o Congratulations to the ECFS Chess team, composed of students from Ethical Culture, Fieldston Lower, and Fieldston Middle, on their superb performance in the U.S. Chess Federation SuperNationals!

Over 7,000 K-12 students competed in the tournament, which is held once every four years. ECFS’s small but mighty team of six played fantastic chess, taking home top-10 honors across three categories, including the Kindergarten–8th Grade championship category, the most competitive chess competition in the country for that age group!

Students also had the incredible opportunity to meet legendary Grandmaster Susan Polgar, and even got to play a game with “super” Grandmaster Leinier Domínguez Pérez. Congratulations to Grace L. ’36, Henry L. ’34, Sam P ’29, Aarav S. ’35, Holden W. ’32, and Eden Y. ’30, along with our chess team coaches! Go Eagles!
